Ensembles

"The SOUND of The NORTHSIDE" is an award-winning ensemble and is the band class offered during the fall semester. The band is a co-curricular activity and meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as during the normal school day. 

The band presents a field production every year at all home football games in Panther Stadium. In addition, the band attends competitions each season. "The SOUND of The NORTHSIDE" also hosts the "Panther Band Classic" - an annual marching band competition that hosts a plethora of bands competing for the memorial "Milton H. Sawyer Grand Champion Trophy" each year!

The Panther Jazz Collective the high school jazz ensemble in Elizabeth City. The band explores a variety of styles, including funk, rock, modern jazz, and the great jazz standards. The band performs at annual band concerts.   This band is one of 2 band classes offered in the Spring Semester at PCHS.

The Panther Jazz Collective has been the opening band for the NC Potato Festival since 2021 - one of our town's favorite events!  The collective is also a favorite of Elizabeth City's "First Friday Artwalk," performing as part of the Camden HS Band's "All-Star Jam Session."  The band has also performed at the Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival at UNC Chapel Hill, the annual jazz festival at Elon University, and on several local elementary school Christmas tours. 

The PCHS Symphonic Band is one of two band classes in the Spring Semester. The band trains musicians and exposes students to a variety of rigorous concert band literature.

The Symphonic Band gives two concerts during the spring semester. The first is our MPA preview concert for parents, which coincides with the concert band festival (MPA) in March. In May, the Symphonic Band presents its annual Spring Concert.  The Symphonic Band also performs at various ceremonies at PCHS, including Senior Awards and Baccalaureate (every other year).

Creating an intense home-court advantage is the pathway to success!  The PCHS Basketball Pep Band is a driving force behind this atmosphere. 

Students who sign up for this ensemble perform at select basketball games during the season.  This ensemble is open to all PCHS Band students, regardless of the ensembles they are in.
